Running OpenBSD on Xen

       515 words, 3 minutes

Here’s the configuration I use to run OpenBSD 4.9-beta on my NetBSD/xen server (NetBSD 5 with Xen 3.3.1). Since OpenBSD doesn’t provide a Xen-aware kernel, I run it using HVM.

# OpenBSD in HVM mode
#
name = "openbsd"

kernel = "/usr/pkg/lib/xen/boot/hvmloader"
builder='hvm'
device_model = '/usr/pkg/libexec/qemu-dm'

memory = 512

vif = [ 'bridge=bridge0, type=ioemu, model=e1000' ]

#disk = [ 'file:/home/xen/openbsd/disk.img,ioemu:hda,w',
#       'file:/home/xen/openbsd/cd49.iso,ioemu:hdc:cdrom,r' ]
disk = [ 'file:/home/xen/openbsd/disk.img,ioemu:hda,w' ]

#boot='d'

vnc = 1
vncdisplay = 0
#vncunused = 0
vncpasswd = ""
vnclisten = '192.168.0.20'

usb=0

Here’s how OpenBSD boots:
