A NomadBSD look for OpenBSD

The other day, I stumbled upon NomadBSD ; a live system for USB drives. I don’t use FreeBSD… but I liked to look of that “(…) desktop system that works out of the box (…)”. So I decided to give a little make up to my already-running-out-of-the-box OpenBSD.

NomadBSD uses Openbox and tint2. But I’d rather use XFCE. Before you go further, here’s what the XFCE desktop is going to look like.

If you liked it and have a couple of spare minutes, here are a few directions.

Install the Adapta GTK theme:

# git clone https://github.com/adapta-project/adapta-gtk-theme.git
# cd adapta-gtk-theme
# pkg_add autoconf automake inkscape sassc
# export AUTOCONF_VERSION="2.69" AUTOMAKE_VERSION="1.16"
# ./autogen.sh --prefix=$HOME/.local
# find ./ -type f -name "*.sh" -exec sed -iorig -e 's;#!.*bash.*$;#!/usr/bin/env bash;' {} \;
# make
# make install

Install the Papirus Icon theme :

# git clone https://github.com/PapirusDevelopmentTeam/papirus-icon-theme.git
# cd papirus-icon-theme
# gmake PREFIX=$HOME/.local install

Get and install the DMZ cursor theme and the (Google) Droid Sans fonts.

Once all this material is installed and applied, simply fill a bottom panel with apps and a top panel with items. My top panel is filled with “Applications Menu”, “Windows Buttons”, “Notification Area”, “Wavelan”, “Battery Monitor”, “Audio Mixer” and “DateTime"items.

Oh! And if you wonder, the desert wallpaper is available here .
